Welcome

Welcome to Generative AI in Barbadian Education: A Leadership Perspective.

This blog was created as part of the PGDEL6003 Technology Leadership for Educational Leaders course at Erdiston Teachers’ Training College. Its purpose is to explore how Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be ethically and effectively integrated into secondary education across Barbados.

As schools continue to embrace digital transformation, AI tools such as ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Canva Magic Write are changing how educators design lessons, assess learning, and manage school operations. Yet, these advances raise important questions about privacy, ethics, access, and cultural integrity. This blog offers educational leaders practical insights, ethical frameworks, and policy guidance to navigate these challenges with confidence.

Purpose and Focus

This project aims to help education leaders understand how Generative AI can support innovation while maintaining the human-centred values that define quality education in Barbados. It aligns with the ISTE Standards for Education Leaders (International Society for Technology in Education [ISTE], 2018) and the Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training’s Digital Strategy 2024–2029 (METVT, 2024).

The posts together examine four key dimensions of leadership and AI readiness:

  • Comprehensive Analysis of Generative AI in Education – exploring its uses, benefits, and limitations.

  • Justification of ISTE Standards – connecting AI governance to international frameworks for ethical technology leadership.

  • Evaluation of an AI Platform – analysing Google Gemini’s relevance, strengths, and challenges for schools.

  • Institutional Action Plan – presenting a model for ethical AI integration at The Lodge School as a case example.

Each post is written from the perspective of an educational leader committed to equity, innovation, and responsibility in digital transformation.
